An incapacitated creature can't take actions or reactions.

Effect

  • An incapacitated creature can't take actions or reactions.

This is the base condition that several other conditions include (stunned, paralyzed, unconscious, petrified).

Common Sources

Rarely applied on its own — it's typically part of other conditions. Some effects like Hypnotic Pattern (incapacitated while charmed by it) and certain monster abilities apply it directly.

Key Interactions

  • An incapacitated creature CAN still move (unless another effect prevents it).
  • An incapacitated creature CAN still speak (unless another effect prevents it).
  • Concentration spells end if the caster becomes incapacitated.
  • An incapacitated grappler automatically releases their grapple.
